Quantum harmonic oscillator state synthesis and analysis

Experiments are described in which a single, harmonically bound, beryllium ion in a Paul trap is put into Fock, thermal, coherent, squeezed, and Schroedinger cat states. Experimental determinations of the density matrix and the Wigner function are described. A simple calculation of the decoherence of a superposition of coherent states due to an external electric field is given.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX2e, special style file spie.sty included, 11 eps figures included using epsfig, graphicx, subfigure, floatflt macros. Investigation of aluminum alloy welds reveals that the combinations of metallic elements with hydrogen are not capable of producing weld porosity themselves, rather they tend to increase the amount of porosity only in the presence of arc contamination by water vapor

On Feb 1, 1936, a group of senior students from Prairie View State College made a survey covering 24 cities end towns in Texas. This particular survey was made in Williamson County, Texas. The total number of questionnaires collected was 82, and. 44 of these questionnaires were collected from the Marshall High School, Georgetown, and 58 were collected from the Granger Colored High School, Granger Thirty or 36.6% of these 82 graduates were males; fifty-two or 63.4% were females. This survey was concerned only with the graduates who were not in college at the present time and had graduated since 1931. In collecting this data special constructed questionnaires were carried to each individual, who wore not in college at the present time, who had graduated from these too schools since 1931. Each Individual was given a questionnaire blank to fill out

Text to 3D Scene Generation with Rich Lexical Grounding

The ability to map descriptions of scenes to 3D geometric representations has many applications in areas such as art, education, and robotics. However, prior work on the text to 3D scene generation task has used manually specified object categories and language that identifies them. We introduce a dataset of 3D scenes annotated with natural language descriptions and learn from this data how to ground textual descriptions to physical objects. Our method successfully grounds a variety of lexical terms to concrete referents, and we show quantitatively that our method improves 3D scene generation over previous work using purely rule-based methods. We evaluate the fidelity and plausibility of 3D scenes generated with our grounding approach through human judgments. To ease evaluation on this task, we also introduce an automated metric that strongly correlates with human judgments.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, 3 tables. To appear in ACL-IJCNLP 201
